Osvinov

Ruins of Castle Himlštejn

The ruins of this 15th-century castle are located on the steep, wooded summit of a basalt cone above Stráž nad Ohří. The castle was built by Vilém of Ilburk as the seat of the newly separated part of the Hauenštejn estate. Over the course of its existence, it changed hands several times, but has been abandoned since 1574. The cellar of the residential tower with its adjacent wall, the remains of the outer bailey wall, the ruins of the palace, and the first gate have survived to this day.

Upper Castle or Hauenštejn

The small guard castle of Přemysl Otakar II was likely built in the second half of the 13th century. The monument, which has undergone numerous renovations over the years, is significant primarily for the way it’s set within the landscape. After World War II and until 1958, the castle served as a juvenile detention center. It then stood abandoned and fell into disrepair until 2000, when its new owner began gradually restoring it with the help of many volunteers. Thanks to their efforts, the castle is now open to the public.

Nebesa National Nature Reserve

In July 2020, the new Nebesa National Nature Reserve was established in the Karlovy Vary Region—it spans 419 hectares on the left bank of the Ohře River between Stráž nad Ohří and Bočí. The reserve’s mission is to protect significant natural phenomena, such as natural forests, an isolated population of the tree snake, and Tertiary volcanic veins with columnar jointing. The area also includes a wide variety of natural habitats. Of particular importance is the buffer zone, which includes non-forest habitats such as mesophilic meadows, shrublands, and oak-hornbeam forests.

Jakubov – Mill on the Ohře River

The watermill near the Jakubov weir on the Ohře River has been marked on maps since the early 19th century. It was in operation until World War II and then abandoned. It has recently been restored—including the millwheel—and serves as a facility for the adjacent canoeing camp. You’ll also find a stylish restaurant there. Access to the mill is either by water or via a small road from Jakubov.

Karlovy Vary

The most visited Czech spa boasts the highest concentration of hot healing springs in the world, with a total of 15 springs bubbling up from the earth’s depths. Whether you want to stroll along the colonnade, enjoy one of the dozens of treatments offered by the spa houses, attend a concert at the newly renovated Imperial Spa, or visit the International Film Festival, which lends the city a unique atmosphere in early July, Karlovy Vary has something to offer in every season. This is one of the reasons it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2021.

Klínovec

The highest peak in the Krušné Mountains offers year-round thrills for athletes of all ages and skill levels. In the summer, cyclists will find 30 km of groomed trails of varying difficulty in the local trail park and in the winter, the ski resort attracts visitors with more than 30 km of downhill slopes and 140 km of groomed cross-country trails.

Environmental Guidelines for the Nebesa National Nature Reserve

The tenant has been informed that:

The village of Osvinov is located within the buffer zone of the Nebesa National Nature Reserve (hereinafter referred to as “Nebesa NNR”);
The guidelines for environmentally responsible behavior in the Nebesa NNR and surrounding area/Protection of the tree snake and other natural resources are as follows:
“The Nebesa NNR protects natural forest ecosystems, including beech forests, scree forests, and floodplain forests. Among the most endangered animals here is our largest snake, the Aesculapian snake (Zamenis longissimus). Due to a number of threatening factors, a conservation program has been developed for it. This program is implemented by the Zamenis Association, with its registered office at Osvinov 149, 363 01 Stráž nad Ohří, ID No.: 270 38 351, with the support of the Landlord and the State Nature Conservation Authority. The goal of the conservation program is to increase the population by building semi-natural breeding sites and to provide overall protection of the European tree snake’s habitats in the Central Poohří region. The tree snake is a synanthropic, non-venomous, non-aggressive animal that is often found near human settlements, in gardens, compost piles, on stone walls, in woodpiles, and not infrequently takes up residence in garden sheds.”;
They will encounter this critically endangered snake in the village of Osvinov and its surrounding area, and have agreed to treat this species with the utmost care, not to intentionally disturb it, not to disrupt its hiding places, and not to otherwise endanger its population in the village and elsewhere.
